Five years on from their magical run to the European Championship semi-finals, Wales begin their Euro 2020 adventure with a showdown against Switzerland in Baku on Saturday. Both sides have ambitions of reaching at least the first knockout round in the pan-European competition, but Group A is arguably the most competitive of the lot. However, as showed during their qualifying campaign, when putting together a five-game unbeaten run to finish runners-up to Croatia, Wales remain a relative force. The Dragons are effectively battling with Switzerland and Turkey for second place behind in-form Italy in Group A, and they can take confidence from recent results.

The Euro 2020 could not have asked for a better opening act as Italy trumped Turkey to get their campaign off to an emphatic start. On Saturday, Wales and Switzerland would be hoping to follow the same path as the two teams face each other in the second Group A match. Semi-finalists in Euro 2016, Wales will be led by Gareth Bale, adding to the career highlight of the winger. He was appointed captain after Ashley Williams retired earlier this year. With 33 goals from 92 matches, Bale is Wales’ highest goal-scorer and will look to add another feather to his cap on Saturday.

The UEFA Euro 2020 features another exciting encounter this weekend as Wales lock horns with Switzerland at the Baku Olympic Stadium on Saturday. Both teams have excellent players in their ranks and will want to make a statement of intent in this fixture.

Switzerland have built a formidable squad and will need to step up to the plate to qualify for the knock-outs this year. With the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka in their ranks, the Swiss can pack a punch and will need to be at their best against Ryan Giggs’ side.

Wales have shown tremendous improvement in recent years and could potentially reach the knock-outs yet again this summer. Gareth Bale, Harry Wilson, and Daniel James form an impressive forward line and will be looking to impress in this fixture.
