Manchester United will be looking to keep their slim Premier League title hopes alive when they welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Sunday evening. The Red Devils have drawn three of their last four league games and are now 10 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, while Newcastle are six points above the relegation zone. The 10-point gap Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have to make up on the leaders is fast becoming insurmountable, but United are not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Solskjaer will certainly be hopeful that Thursday’s 4-0 win over Real Sociedad in their Europa League last-32 first leg can provide a catalyst to push on in the league.

Newcastle are the team that everyone in the bottom three thinks they can catch – realistically they are the only other team who could still be dragged into the relegation places. The Magpies are not playing well and that gives the sides below them hope that if they keep going they can catch them. Manchester United have won four of their past five Premier League games against Newcastle United, including 4-1 victories in the two most recent meetings. Newcastle’s solitary win in their last 37 attempts in all competitions at Old Trafford was by 1-0 in the Premier League in December 2013.

On Thursday night, at Allianz Stadium in Turin, the Red Devils hammered Real Sociedad 4-0 in the Europa League round of 32 first leg.

Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace with Marcus Rashford and Dan James also scoring.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær will surely rest and rotate in Thursday’s return leg.

In the Premier League meantime, Man United’s form has been less than impressive.

Last weekend, despite Fernandes’ sumptuous volley, they could only draw 1-1 at the Hawthorns with a West Brom side seemingly doomed to relegation.
