Manchester City VS Norwich Match LIVE Football Score 21/08/2021

Manchester City are set to play Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in the English Premier League. Manchester City come into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur in the league. A second-half goal from South Korean forward Son Heung-min ensured victory for Tottenham Hotspur. Norwich City, on the other hand, lost 3-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Goals from Portuguese forward Diogo Jota, Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino and Egypt international Mohamed Salah sealed the deal for Liverpool.

Gundogan has been one of the most consistent performers across the previous 12 months under Pep Guardiola, and the Germany international played an integral role in the club storming to the Premier League title. His impressive showings throughout the 2020/2021 campaign established the German as a firm fan favourite.

However, Blues supporters were left worried at the weekend when, following the final whistle, Ilkay Gundogan was seen with a problem in his shoulder, as he was treated by club medical staff. With the City midfielder evidently in discomfort, many Manchester City fans were concerned that the injury could keep the midfielder on the sidelines for several weeks. However, reports have surfaced suggesting that the injury is, fortunately, not as bad as initially feared.

Manchester City’s season got off to a disappointing start and it was clear to the eye that Pep’s side were well short of the best at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but they still created enough chances to win that game.

So much so, that the xG data suggests they would have won that game 62% of the time. Sure, City were a long way from their scintillating best but it would be unwise to go overboard about what was always going to be a tricky opener.

City got off to a very slow start last season before running away with the Premier League and a home game against Norwich City looks the perfect opportunity to get the season up and running.

City have amassed 37 goals in the last 12 meetings between these sides, five of which came in the last fixture between the sides at the Etihad on the final day of the 2019/20 season.

Norwich, who were outclassed by Liverpool on the opening day, managed just one victory on the road in that 2019/20 season, conceding an average of two goals a game.

A proposed deal for Harry Kane appears to be no closer to going through, while Pep Guardiola’s side have suffered 1-0 defeats to Leicester City and Tottenham in their two competitive matches this season.

Indeed, the Foxes beat the English champions in the Community Shield on August 7, before Tottenham ran out 1-0 winners in the Premier League last Sunday courtesy of a second-half effort from Son Heung-min, meaning that there is already pressure on the Citizens to put three points on the board.

Man City’s need for a new striker was shown in the defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the club will soon enter a difficult run of fixtures, taking on Arsenal, Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool in four of their five matches after this weekend’s contest with Daniel Farke’s team.

Norwich started brightly against Liverpool last weekend but conceded once in the first half and twice in the second half, as the Reds recorded a 3-0 victory at Carrow Road.

The Canaries will know that their home form will be crucial if they are to stay in the top flight this season, but they did record a 3-2 victory away to Man City as recent as 2013, and it might be a good time to take on the champions considering their issues in the early stages of the new campaign.
