Manchester City vs Club America Football Match Score 21 July 2022

Manchester City are ready to begin their pre-season tour with a friendly against Club America at the NRG Stadium on Thursday. Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to defend their Premier League title in the 2022-23 campaign, and they are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations. They have got added quality reinforcements in the form of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez, with supporters now eager to watch all of them in action.

Haaland could make his City debut against Club America. Guardiola will likely also want to give some minutes to Phillips and Alvarez. The Spanish tactician will be eager to try out various combinations with his new players before the new Premier League season kicks off on August 6.

“We cannot put too much pressure on these players. We need to get them houses, and apartments in Manchester, and in the sessions what we want them to do will increase,” Guardiola has said of the new signings. “The first impressions of Julian, Kalvin, Erling, and Stefan were really good – they seem like good people. Having good vibes in the locker room is more important than tactics.”

However, Phil Foden, Ilkay Gundogan and John Stones will be unavailable as they did not travel to the United States because of their vaccination status. Club America head into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. Mason Mount struck late to hand a narrow win to the Blues after Timo Werner opened the scoring. America have made five new signings in the summer, including Uruguyan international Jonathan Rodriguez from Al Nassr.

They have started their Mexican Apertura season with a draw against Atlas and are currently 11th in the table with four points from three matches. Manager Fernando Ortiz made seven changes against Chelsea from their win over Toluca and is expected to go for rotation once again. Mexican national team keeper Guillermo Ochoa should start along with former Barcelona midfielder Jonathan dos Santos.

Manchester City will begin their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Club America on Wednesday night. The Citizens are building towards the Community Shield against Liverpool on July 30, while America played Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Blues. Man City won England’s top flight for the eighth time last season, finishing one point clear of second-place Liverpool at the summit, but they certainly did it the hard way on the final weekend.

The Citizens were 2-0 down to Aston Villa heading into the final 15 minutes on May 22, but Ilkay Gundogan and then Rodri scored twice in the space of two minutes to level the scores before Gundogan netted his second in the 81st minute, which completed the turnaround and saw Pep Guardiola’s side finish above Liverpool. Man City will face Club America and Bayern Munich in two friendlies this summer before taking on Liverpool in the Community Shield on July 30.

Guardiola’s side will then open their 2022-23 Premier League campaign away to West Ham United on August 7, and it will be fascinating to see how the season unfolds for the champions considering that there have been some major incomings and outgoings at the club this summer. Erling Braut Haaland and Kalvin Phillips have made the move from Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United respectively, while Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho have been among those to depart. America, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on Saturday; Timo Werner sent the Blues ahead before an own goal from Reece James levelled the scores, but Mason Mount struck late on to hand Thomas Tuchel’s side the victory in Las Vegas.

Millonetas signed five new players ahead of their new season, with the standout addition being Uruguay international Jonathan Rodriguez, who arrived in a £5m deal from Al-Nassr. Fernando Ortiz’s side started their 2022-23 campaign on July 3, playing out a goalless draw with Atlas before suffering a 3-2 defeat to Monterrey in their second match one week later; the Mexican giants did manage to pick up their first three points of the season against Toluca on July 14, though, running out 1-0 winners. America have won their domestic title on 13 occasions, which is a record, placing them one ahead of Guadalajara when it comes to championships, and they will quickly switch their attention back to the league after this match, with their next fixture coming against Tijuana on July 23.

Manchester City’s preparations for the 2022/23 campaign will step up another notch this week, when they face Club America in their first pre-season friendly of the summer. The Premier League champions started a little later than most top-flight clubs when it comes to pre-season activities – in fact, Manchester United will have played three warm-up games before City’s clash with Club America.

But for Pep Guardiola’s men it’s vital to get some minutes into their legs before the season kicks off on 7 August against West Ham United. City have just two pre-season friendlies and play Bayern Munich later this week, while Guardiola appears to be using the Community Shield against Liverpool on 30 July as a chance to improve the fitness of his squad.

City will be without John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden on Thursday, with the quartet not included in City’s 26-man squad which flew to the States. Ruben Dias is also a major doubt after he missed Wednesday’s open training session at the NRG Stadium, while Oleksandr Zinchenko won’t play due to his imminent transfer to Arsenal.
