Liverpool vs Osasuna Match LIVE Football Score 09/08/2021
Tonight brings the closing friendly of the warmup schedule, and a similar number of supporters are expected to flock to the red side of Stanley Park to get a glimpse of Jurgen Klopp‘s side in action. Klopp effectively named his strongest side – or at least that closest to what should be seen on the opening day of the Premier League at Norwich – in the 1-1 draw with Athletic Club.
But there could be further hints of who is closest to top form as Liverpool take on Osasuna in a tribute to the late Michael Robinson, namely with the performance of Tsimikas. With Robertson likely to be sidelined for the start of the season with an ankle injury, Tsimikas‘ place in the starting lineup tonight gives him a chance to build on an impressive pre-season. Liverpool will round off their preparations for the new Premier League campaign on Tuesday when they take on Spanish side Osasuna at Anfield.
The Reds have managed just one win from their five friendly games this season and will aim to end their pre-season on a high note. Liverpool failed to return to winning ways on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by La Liga side Athletic Bilbao. In an entertaining contest, Portuguese forward Diogo Jota opened the scoring in the 13th minute, but Alex Berenguer leveled the scores in the 53rd minute to force a share of the spoils.
This followed Liverpool’s disappointing 4-3 defeat at the hands of Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin last Thursday. Liverpool have now managed one win from their last five games this season, picking up three draws and losing once. Jürgen Klopp will hope his side can turn a corner in this game as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Norwich next Saturday.
Liverpool will be hoping to round off their pre-season preparations with a win when they welcome Osasuna to Anfield on Monday. The Reds have won one, drawn one, and lost one of their three official friendly matches this summer, playing out a 1-1 draw with Athletic Club on Sunday.
With many of the squad coming back to training at different times after taking part in Euro 2020 and the Copa America this summer, these two matches on successive days at Anfield will allow Jurgen Klopp to ease players back into action and assess his options.
While the likes of new signing Ibrahima Konate will be keen to impress ahead of the new season in this clash, it is probably fair to say that most of the players likely to start against Norwich were included in Sunday’s line-up.
In contrast, Los Rojillos will come into this game with their strongest possible line-up as they look to fine tune ahead of their La Liga opener against Espanyol on Saturday.
