Two sides with similar domestic stories come to grips with one another in Portugal, with both Juventus and Porto having the unfortunate luck of trying to catch two red-hot domestic rivals. Both have strong European pedigree, with attacking cores that are both quite capable on their day. Juventus have the ace in the hole that is Cristiano Ronaldo however, and his track record of performing in the competition should help a good Juventus pip a strong opponent.

At the moment, there are really only two main goal threats for Juventus; Cristiano Ronaldo, and Alvaro Morata. Though the Spanish international is the club leading goal-scorer in Champions League this term (six goals in six appearances) and joint-top scorer, Ronaldo is arguably the competition’s greatest player as well as the all-time leading scorer. His penchant for banging in the goals in Europe puts him in with a good chance at a brace should Juve be firing on all cylinders on Wednesday.

The reigning champions of Portugal and Italy go head-to-head at Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday evening, with Porto hosting Juventus as the Champions League returns after winter hibernation. This last-16 first leg tie sees several old acquaintances reunited in the picturesque port city, all of whom will want to replicate their club’s continental form so far, rather than more inconsistent domestic displays. Hired specifically with leading Juventus to continental glory in mind, Ronaldo is seeking to embellish his glittering personal record with a sixth European crown this season and will encounter a long-time teammate and friend – with whom he shared much of that success – on Wednesday.

The 2020/21 UEFA Champions League returned to action this week, with the first leg of the Round of 16 stages set to be played out across Europe. And Italian champions Juventus will be in action on Wednesday night when they face off against Portuguese giants FC Porto at Estadio do Dragao.

Juventus ended their group stage as leaders of Group G, finishing above La Liga giants Barcelona due to a superior head-to-head record. While Andrea Pirlo’s men have been in good nick since the turn of the year, they head into Wednesday’s game desperate to win, having failed to do so in their last two matches in all competitions, most recently losing 1-0 to Napoli in Serie A.
