Thiago Silva out for Chelsea, Atletico without Kieran Trippier for Champions League last-16 tie; follow with our dedicated live blog across Sky Sports’ digital platforms and on Gillette Soccer Special, live on Sky Sports News and Sky Sports Premier League from 7pm Atletico will be without Kieran Trippier (suspended) and Hector Herrera (illness), while Yannick Carrasco is sidelined with a foot injury and defender Jose Gimenez suffered a muscle problem at the weekend. Chelsea will be without experienced defender Thiago Silva with the Brazilian recovering from a knock, but midfielder Kai Havertz and forward Christian Pulisic are in contention.

This is the sixth time the Blues have reached this phase of the competition in the last eight campaigns although we have lost at this stage in the last four, most recently going down 1-7 on aggregate to eventual winners Bayern Munich last season. That loss in Munich is our only defeat in 14 European away matches (10 wins, three draws). Our Champions League record in the round of 16 is eight wins and six defeats. We have not won any of our last eight away Champions League matches in the knockout stages (four draws, four defeats) since a 1-0 win at Benfica in March 2012 in the quarter-final first leg.

They cruised to the top of Group E under Frank Lampard, above Sevilla, Krasnodar and Rennes, but since then Thomas Tuchel has come in as the new Head Coach.

Under the German, the Blues have taken 14 points from a possible 18 in the Premier League, most recently drawing 1-1 with Southampton on Saturday.

Will Tuchel maintain his unbeaten start in this huge tie?

Chelsea will take on Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash on Tuesday night, with the fixture being held in Romania due to coronavirus protocols over travel. The match is technically Atletico’s home leg despite the fact that it is not taking place in Spain, with the reverse fixture due to take place in London in the middle of March. Atletico overcame Liverpool at this stage of the 2019-20 competition but surprisingly lost 2-1 to RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals; the Red and Whites have actually reached the last eight or better in five of their last seven Champions League campaigns and will be confident of overcoming Chelsea.
