Barcelona VS RB Salzburg H2H LIVE Football Score 04/08/2021

Barcelona are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to the Red Bull Arena for their pre-season friendly fixture against Red Bull Salzburg. The Catalan giants claimed a 3-0 victory over Vfb Stuttgart last time out. Meanwhile, Salzburg head into the game off the back of an emphatic 7-1 hammering of SV Reid in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Following an impressive 1-0 win over Spaniards Atletico Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg returned to the Austrian Bundesliga where they steamrolled SV Reid in a 7-1 victory. Benjamin Sesko and Karim Adeyemi scored two goals each as Salzburg thrashed the Wikinger to secure their second league win of the season.

Matthias Jaissle’s men have now picked up four wins from their last four outings across all competitions, including a 4-1 win over bottom tier WSC Hertha in round one of the OFB Cup. Salzburg currently sit top of the Austrian Bundesliga table, two points ahead of second-placed Flyeralarm Admira.

Barça are due to play their fourth friendly of pre-season this evening against RB Salzburg, and will be looking to carry the good sensations from previous games into tonight’s fixture. Koeman’s squad – comprised of senior professionals and younger academy graduates looking to make a name for themselves – has played well in recent games, including last weekend’s friendly against Stuttgart.

The biggest issue concerning Barcelona with a fortnight to go until the new La Liga campaign begins is the future of star man Lionel Messi, who still remains a free agent. As well as tying Messi down to a new deal, Barca are also looking to further strengthen their squad having so far signed free agents Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay.

Depay has settled in well to his new surroundings, scoring in his first two appearances for Barca in their 3-1 win against Girona and 3-0 victory against Stuttgart.

Ronald Koeman has not been afraid of giving minutes to young players this pre-season, with Gavi, Yusuf Demir and Nico González all starting from the off against the Bundesliga side. They may be given another opportunity to do so in tonight’s match against Champions League opposition.

With the return to fitness of Barça’s Spanish internationals, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, following their participation in this summer’s European Championships, the opportunities for some young players may be more restricted.

Barcelona are expected to agree a new long-term deal with Messi, but the superstar forward remains absent for the time being, as does fellow Argentina international Aguero. Garcia is away on Olympics duty with Spain, while academy graduate Alex Collado is another absentee for this friendly as he has been given permission to seek a transfer.

Rey Manaj has been one of the stars for Barcelona during pre-season and may return to the starting lineup here, with Antoine Griezmann potentially used as a substitute. After being introduced from the bench last time out, Sergio Busquets is in line for a start. Jordi Alba, who recently returned from Euro 2020 duty, may also feature.
